The Del Oro High water polo team beat Granite Bay for the first time in eight years on Tuesday in a home game at Sierra College.
Del Oro controlled the game from the start. The Eagles had a 6-3 lead after two quarters and went on to win, 9-7.
Sophomore goalie Katelyn Thompson had a big game coming up with eight saves. Junior Courtney Weddle led the team with four goals, Michal Andreatta scored three, and Sarah Mekebri had two.
In junior varsity play, Del Oro beat Granite Bay 19-5.
Del Oro plays at Bear River Thursday.
Woodcreek 7, Bear River 1 at Roseville — Jessica Marso scored the lone goal for the Bruins while Kara Dodd and Shelby Quist each had three attempts each.
In junior varsity action, Bear River beat Woodcreek 16-2. Shelby Angus, Cindy Solomon, and Andrea Bock each had three goals to lead the team in scoring. Patti Southworth had five saves at goalie.
Del Oro dropped a close match against Davis, 5-4. It was a good showing for the now 3-1 Eagles considering Davis won the Div. I Sac-Joaquin Section championship last season.
At No. 1 singles, freshman Abby Bacharach came from behind to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Brynn Bacharach won 6-2, 6-0 for No. 2 singles. Brooke McDonough won her singles match as well 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles did well in doubles play. In No. 2 doubles Marina Hanson and Kim Hibbert won 6-4, 6-1, and Brie Simmons and Erin Wang won 6-0, 6-1.
Del Oro’s next match will be at Oak Ridge on Thursday.
