A dump truck driver walked away uninjured after his vehicle hit a guardrail on Highway 49 Friday morning. The truck, which was coming out of the Cool Cave Quarry in Cool, was traveling northbound on Highway 49 at about 7:56 a.m. when the driver lost control and “became entangled in a guardrail,” according to Dan Stark, public information officer with the Placerville California Highway Patrol office. Stark said the truck did not overturn, however, when it struck the guardrail, a portion of the vehicle was off the road. “It wasn’t hanging over the edge or anything of that nature,” Stark said. A portion of the truck’s load did spill on the road and shut down the highway for about 10 minutes before officers were able to reopen the road to controlled one-way traffic while emergency crews and Caltrans workers responded to the scene. Stark said no injuries were reported, only property damage. ~ Jenifer Gee
