The Colfax High softball team busted out of a seven-game losing streak with a 3-0 shutout of Placer Thursday at home. Freshman Randi Anderson tossed a five-hitter with three strikeouts to get the win for the Falcons (6-14 overall, 3-8 Pioneer Valley League) while freshman Ashley Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate to spark the offense. Senior Courtney Weisman had a hit and brought in a run when she was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning. Junior shortstop Cassandra Campbell made a diving catch for the final out of the game. Kacy Romero had a double and played excellent defense at second base to lead Placer. Tia Wright, Melissa Scheller, Courtney Phillips and Morgan Taylor added singles. The Hillgals finished out the season 8-17 overall and 3-9 in the PVL. Placer beat Colfax 12-2 in JV action to finish the season 6-5-1. Shanna Heller went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Haley Tupen hit a two-run homer and Taylor Hill doubled twice and drove in two. Vacaville Christian 4, Forest Lake 1 at Vacaville — The Falcons dropped their second Central Valley Christian League game, but remained atop the league. Amanda Sparling racked up two hits to lead Forest Lake (16-2 overall, 11-2 CVCL). Olivia Taylor and Brittany Brown added singles for the Falcons, who have clinched the league title and will open the Division V playoffs May 13.
