The NorCal All Sports Health and Fitness Expo is making its debut right here in Auburn, Saturday and Sunday. Vendor booths, demonstrations and a family friendly run are just a few of the activities being offered at the Gold Country Fairgrounds. Event producer Sherrie Letcher, of Auburn, said she wanted to provide the public with one place where they could find a broad range of information. With more than 85 vendors attending the expo, Letcher asked co-worker Cynthia Tidd to help her execute all of the plans. “I thought, ‘what is an event that is needed, that would be well-received and there is not already an event like it going on,’” Letcher said. “Everyone is there to offer the public some information and create one forum.” Letcher, a special education teacher for the Placer County Office of Education, said other events of its kind are typically focused on one sport. The NorCal Expo has presenters ranging from rock climbing to Russian kettlebell lifting to anti-aging. Vendors will be selling an array of healthy food. “I looked really hard all over and I can say there is nothing like this in California, and maybe even the United States,” Letcher said. “There are expos for just boxing, a specific sport or MMA, and sometimes those have a health expo attached to them.” Kids can also feed their brains in the eco-themed children’s and family entertainment area. Taking center stage are Sunflower the Clown, Jamus, a great horned owl and River Cats Mascot Dinger (Saturday, 10 a.m.). Terry Robinson, of Citrus Heights, will perform an educational show as Dr. Solar. He uses his eco-friendly, solar-powered gypsy wagon to entertain and educate kids. “It’s an environmental show based on why we would go with solar and how solar works,” Robinson said. “Most people have only seen the solar-powered watches or calculators that start to go dim when the sun goes down. Solar can work 24 hours a day and even in the cloudy weather I’m still powered up.” Many aspects of the expo are fundraisers. Proceeds from the 1K, 5K and 10K runs will benefit the Special Olympics and the American Heart Association. An equipment swap meet and sale will benefit the Placer High soccer team, Placer High Athletic Department and 49er United Arsenal soccer team. Those looking to sell sports or exercise equipment can drop it off Friday and have it sold, for 20 percent of the asking price. “It’s a great way to spend a weekend. Look at what opportunities and education are out there,” Letcher said. “I hope to learn something from the event and make some of my own changes.
