LAKE OF THE PINES — Forest Lake Christian junior Josh Ritchart scored 39 points but it wasn’t quite enough to carry the Falcons as they fell to Lincoln 81-72 in the championship game of the Falcon Christmas Classic Saturday night. The Fighting Zebras (13-1), who also beat Forest Lake 97-78 at the Marysville Pepsi Classic on Dec. 12, won the tournament for the third straight year. The Falcons had already advanced to the championship before losing to Berean Christian 67-60 earlier in the day. Ritchart scored 30 in that game. In the title game, Forest Lake led 21-16 after one quarter before Lincoln led 36-32 at halftime. The Zebras used a strong third quarter to pull away. MVP Mark Murphy went 6-for-7 from the 3-point line, including a flawless first half of perimeter shooting, and finished with 22 points. “Lincoln is the best team we’ve played this year by far,” said Forest Lake head coach Dave Thomas. “This was a good tourney for us because it showed us things we still need to work on when we play teams of the quality that were in this tournament.” Ritchart, who won the dunk contest and the 3-point shootout with 13 treys in one minute, received all-tournament honors. The Falcons (6-3) host Valley Christian tonight at 6:30.
