Forest Lake leaps atop CVCL standings

Forest Lake Christian’s sisters helped the Falcons pass their biggest test of the season Monday. Lindsey Engbrecht scored twice and sophomore sister Taylor Engbrecht added a goal in Forest Lake’s 3-0 win over visiting Vacaville Christian. Christa Weisman and Kacie McGeary both had assists in the victory, the Falcons’s seventh straight win since dropping their season opener to Nevada Union. Forest Lake (7-1 overall, 4-0 Central Valley Christian League) took sole possession of first place in the league standings. Morghan Pomeroy made seven saves for her third straight shutout. The Falcons travel to Foresthill Thursday. The Wildfires’ game against Cristo Rey was snowed out Monday and rescheduled for this afternoon. Whitney 2, Placer 0 — The Wildcats broke a scoreless halftime tie with a goal in the first five minutes of the second half and an insurance goal late. Brooke Bendorf and Karly Kenworthy played stellar games for the host Hillgals (3-5-2 overall, 1-3 Pioneer Valley League), who couldn’t make much happen offensively despite taking 12 shots on goal. Colfax 5, Lincoln 0 at Colfax — Kacey Capuchino scored three goals as the Falcons cruised to improve to 7-3-3 overall and 2-1 in the PVL. Piper Lofrano and Ashley Tobiasz added goals for Colfax while Chanel Filteau had two assists. The Falcons host Bear River Wednesday. El Dorado 2, Bear River 2 at Lake of the Pines — The Cougars led 1-0 at halftime before playing to a tie with the host Bruins, who are 1-1-1 in PVL play. Golden Sierra 2, Lindhurst 0 at Olivehurst — Jaimey Danielson-McKeague and MacKenzi Gleason scored goals and Alexa McComb and Vanessa Lidicoat had assists as the Grizzlies won their sixth straight. Goalkeeper Kayla Anderson posted her second consecutive shutout as Golden Sierra improved to 7-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the Golden Empire League. The Grizzlies host Highlands Wednesday afternoon.
