Free speech works two ways

Robert Carrell (“Knight Obama to the rescue,” Reader Input, March 16) thinks the president is a weak man for commending a young woman for speaking out about injustice in women’s healthcare coverage. Obama probably felt she needed it after being attacked so viciously on talk radio. But I am astounded! The topic isn’t Obama or the First Amendment — it’s the continuing war on women. No one is arresting Rush L(imbaugh) or even talking about kicking him off the air. He has done nothing illegal. His sponsors are leaving by choice; they are participating in our capitalistic system by protecting their profits. Why does Mr. Carrell think a quick phone call to Sandra Fluke is diminishing his free speech? Does he need the president to call him, too? Patricia Grenfell, Auburn
