Get rollin' with the Funk Box Derby

-A +A
Want to get involved with the rebirth of an Auburn-unique tradition? You still have time. The Auburn Funk Box Derby, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 19, on Lincoln Way in Downtown Auburn, is still looking for entrants. “We have room for a few more cars,” said Keith Hentschel of the Auburn Funk Box Derby. Currently, the Funk Box Derby has as many as 15 lined up for the downhill race, which will take place at 11 a.m. on Sept. 19. “What I’m looking forward to is the originality of the creations,” Hentschel said. “The creativity and energy that people put into the cars —I’m looking forward to the originality.” Hentschel does ask that those interested get in contact with him prior to the event by calling him at (530) 308-1582 or by e-mailing info@funkboxderby.com. Entry fees for the event are $75 for non-commercial participants, and $100 for commercial. The day will start with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 10:45 a.m., a parade at 11 a.m. and racing at 12:30 p.m. For more on the event you can visit online at www.funkboxderby.com. ~ Andrew DiLuccia
