In collaboration with California State University Sacramento, Sierra College is now able to offer selected Associate Degree Nursing students an opportunity to pursue their Bachelor of Science Nursing degree concurrently during the ADN program.

This new BSN Merger Track is integrated into the ADN program and will begin during the summer between the first and second year of nursing school. Candidates will be selected during their first semester in the ADN program and will graduate from Sacramento State seven months after graduating with their associate degree in nursing.

In response to the Institute of Medicine’s statement that recommends 80 percent of the nursing workforce have their bachelor’s degree by 2020, Sierra College has partnered with Sacramento State so as to “achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression,” according to a press release. This will be accomplished through the merging of both curriculums rather than waiting to begin the RN to BSN track after graduating with an associated degree.

“We are excited to offer our students the opportunity to earn Bachelor of Science Nursing degrees at Sierra College in partnership with Sac State,” said President William Duncan. “The demand for bachelor’s degree nurses is growing among healthcare organizations and we are ready to help meet that demand.”

Information can be found on the Sierra College website, Applications for the fall ADN and BSN merger cohorts will be accepted beginning Feb. 1.
