Give freely to Auburn schools

Measure L was a proposition on the Nov. 2 ballot. Its goal was to get all of the property owners who live within the Auburn Union School District to add $59 to their parcel tax per year for the next five years. The money would have gone to the Auburn Union School District. It would have generated about $4 million over five years for the district. The money would have been used for keeping class sizes low, attracting and maintaining the excellent teachers that we have in the school district and providing a stable source of funding that the state of California could not take away. Unfortunately, Measure L did not pass with the necessary percentage of “yes” votes. I am in the seventh grade at E.V. Cain Middle School and I think I am getting an excellent education. I’m sure that the school district would be happy to accept any $59 donations from all of us that benefit from good schools in Auburn. I think it would be a great idea and the students would really appreciate your support. GAVIN FLINT, student, Auburn
