GOP Congress ran amok

I appreciate that Arne Celick (“Blown away by the power of Bush,” Reader Input, Sept. 2) is 87 years old, so I’ll be a bit gentle with him. Perhaps Mr. Celick needs to go to the library and research the U.S. Congress, and then he would find out that there has been a Republican-dominated Congress since 1994, not 1984, as his letter states, and it lasted for the next 12 years until 2006. It was then that American voters said enough to giving big tax reductions to the wealthiest 1 percent, rather than the middle class, enough to losing jobs by the millions to offshore companies because they could make more money by paying slave wages in China, Indonesia, etc., and enough to losing trillions of dollars in our 401K retirement funds as well as the equity built up in our homes because of greedy Wall Street investors. Yes, Arne, I hate to disappoint you, but this downhill trend all started with an irresponsible Republican Congress run amok, and the Bush Administration. Not one of their measures ever “trickled down” to the middle class, and I don’t want to go back to those dark old days, thank you! Jane O’Leary, Auburn
