Hernandez comes up with game winner for Hillmen

The Placer High soccer team survived a major test from Bear River Tuesday as Eduardo Hernandez broke through for an unassisted goal in the second half to lift the Hillmen to a 1-0 win.
Goalkeeper Nigel Pell preserved the shutout as Placer improved to 5-1-2 in the Pioneer Valley League. Foothill led the PVL at 5-0-2 heading into Tuesday’s action.
Nick Mitchell and Zack Lucas led Placer’s defense against Bear River (1-4-1 PVL). Mauricio Vera played well on the offensive side for the Hillmen.


Girls Water Polo
Del Oro 10, Bear River 4
The Golden Eagles (15-1) defeated Bear River (0-6) 10-4 Tuesday at Del Oro. The Bruins were led by goalie Brittany Tyra, who had 18 saves and scored one goal. Shelby Quist, Maddie Phelps, and Kara Dodd all had one goal.
For the Golden Eagles, Courtney Weddle scored six goals and had five steals. Sarah Mekebri had two goals. Ryllie Haynes and Michal Andreatta each scored one goal.
Defensively Hannah Jarvis had three steals.
Del Oro will play Rocklin at Sierra College on Thursday and Bear River will play Nevada Union at Bear River.

Boys Water Polo
Del Oro 15, Bear River 14
The Del Oro High boys water polo team (5-7overall) beat Bear River High (5-4 overall) 15-14 on Tuesday at Del Oro. Senior Colin Johnston scored seven goals, Christopher McCormack scored five, and Sam Baker scored three. Goalie Michael Penny had five saves.
On the Bruin’s side, junior Sam Aguilar led with six goals. Jake Armstrong had three goals, while Josh Cutter and Garrat Johnson each scored two.
The Golden Eagles will take on Rocklin at Sierra College on Thursday. The Bruins will face Nevada Union at Bear River on Thursday.

Girls Tennis

Del Oro 9, Nevada Union 0

The Del Oro girl’s tennis team defeated Nevada Union 9-0 on Tuesday.

In singles play Abby Bacharach won her match 6-1, 6-4, Bryn Bacharach won 6-0, 6-4, Erin Becker won 6-0, 6-0, Haley Schaban won 6-0, 6-0, Ellen Watson won 6-3, 6-2, and Brooke McDonough won 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

For doubles, Kimmy Hibbert and Leilani Dickson won 6-1, 6-3, Marina Hansen and Brie Simmons won 6-2, 6-3, and Baylee Moranville and Erin Wang won 6-2, 6-2.

The Golden Eagles are 6-1 overall and will compete against Granite Bay on Thursday at Del Oro.
