Hillgals blast Union Mine

The Placer High softball team out-slugged Union Mine Wedneday for a 10-3 victory at home.
Haley Tupen led a nine-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three run sscored for the Hillgals. Kailey Gaffney was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two steals while Jenna Knox also had two hits.
Taylor Graham scored three runs and knocked in two more. Emma Zoller scored two runs, Brooke Stufflebean had two RBIs and Alyssa Chapman had an RBI-single.
Placer (2-1) will compete in the Dandelion Classic in Jackson beginning Friday.
Placer 8, El Camino 7 (8)
— The Hillmen overcame a furious rally from the Eagles to improve to 3-0 on the season. Kevin Harcus’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Brandon Robison with the winning run at James Field.
Ryan Mason pitched 3 2/3 strong innings and Placer raced out to a 7-0 lead before El Camino stormed back. The visitors made up the difference in the final three innings to tie the game. Eddie Vanderdoes picked up the win for Placer after pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Junior Michael Reale smacked a pair of doubles and knocked in three runs to lead the Hillmen at the plate. Evan Staton finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Paul Bandanza was 3-for-3 and Zach Hersch was 2-for-3.
Placer will host Mesa Verde Friday at 6 p.m. in its final non-league game.
In junior varsity play, Placer fell to El Camino despite two hits from Austin LeBleu. Todd Valliere, Will Allen, Danny Humphries and Josh Huttrup each had one hit for the Hillmen.
Antelope 10, Foresthill 0 at Sacramento — The Wildfires fell in their season opener as errors and walks hurt them against the Division III foe.
Foresthill was quiet at the plate. Donny Farrel provided a highlight for the Wildfires with an uassisted double play.
