The Placer High soccer team turned a tight game into a runaway Tuesday at Oakmont. The Hillmen went up 1-0 late in the first half as Chilean exchange student Ben Del La Barra scored on an assist from freshman Adam Norcott. Placer scored two more in the second half to nab a 3-0 victory. Eduardo Hernandez scored an unassisted goal in the 55th minute and Gama Gomez capped the scoring four minutes later with an assist from De La Barra. Peter Kean and Zach Lucas were strong on defense for the Hillmen (7-1-2) along with Nikolai Figueroa and Eddie Santamaria. Placer’s victory followed an impressive performance at the Del Campo Jamboree at Cherry Island last weekend. The Hillmen posted wins over Whittel (1-0) and Pitman (2-1) and tied Roseville (2-2) and Rio Linda (1-1). — Todd Mordhorst
