Hillmen soccer blanks Zebras

The Placer High soccer team celebrated senior night with a 2-0 shutout of Lincoln Thursday at Le Febvre Stadium.
The Hillmen took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to Eduardo Hernandez’s finish off of a cross from Jose Arellano. Placer tacked on an insurance goal in the second half when Archie Warren poked in a loose ball inside the penalty box.
Nick Mitchell and Victor Brambila anchored the Placer defense in front of goalkeeper Nigel Pell.
Placer (6-1-3 Pioneer Valley League, 14-1-3 overall) will face Colfax on the road Tuesday to finsh out the regular season. The Hillmen have clinched at least second place in the PVL and a playoff berth.
In junior varsity play, Lincoln topped Placer 2-0.
Colfax 3, Bear River 1 at Colfax — The Falcons got two goals from Joey Rooker and another from Evan Kaiser to put away the Bruins Thursday.
Adam McCord played well with four saves at goalkeeper while Michael Manning and Gary Root shined on defense.
The Falcons improved to 4-4-1 heading into Tuesday’s season finale at home against Placer.


Water polo
The Bear River High girls water polo team knocked off rival Nevada Union 6-1 Thursday at Lake of the Pines.
Kara Dodd and Cassidy Rogers scored two goals each and Brittany Tyra came up with 11 saves in goal as the Bruins improved to 2-7 in the Sierra Foothill League. Shelby Quist and Cheyenne Rogers scored one goal each for the Bruins.
In junior varsity play, Bear River remained unbeaten at 9-0 with a 15-6 win over Nevada Union. Cindy Solomon scored five goals while Drea Bach and Courtney Jenkins tossed in four each.
Del Oro 8, Rocklin 6 at Rocklin — Sophomore Michal Andreatta fired in four goals as the Golden Eagles topped the Thunder to improve to 14-0 on the year and 6-0 in the Sierra Foothill League.
Courtney Weddle had two goals for Del Oro while Morgan Callahan and Bianca Binns added one each.

Volleyball
Senior Bailey Humes served up nine aces Thursday night as the Del Oro High volleyball team swept past Woodcreek 25-11, 25-7, 25-12 in Loomis.
Belle Obert added four aces to go with eight kills and 13 digs as the Golden Eagles climbed back over .500 in the Sierra Foothill League play at 3-2.
Aly Duffin had six kills for Del Oro. Humes tossed in 21 assists and five digs. She was a perfect 20-for-20 on her serve.
The Del Oro junior varsity won its first SFL match, beating Woodcreek 25-22, 21-25, 15-7.
