Lauren Pratt receives leadership award Loretto High School graduating senior Lauren Pratt has received a Sullivan Leadership Award to attend Seattle University. Lauren, the daughter David Pratt and Susan Akin of Auburn, plans a pre-major in the college of arts and sciences. The Sullivan Leadership Award is a four-year, full scholarship that covers tuition, room and board. More than 350 students from seven western states compete for the nine Sullivan Awards given annually in support of students who have promoted social justice through their service and leadership. Esqueda finishes Air Force basic training Air Force Airman Alan Esqueda has graduated from six weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Antonino and Rita Esqueda of Lincoln. Esqueda is a 2007 graduate of Lincoln High School. Newell graduates from basic training Air Force Airman Dimitreus A. Newell has graduated from six weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Nick and Katrina Rood of Rocklin. Newell is a 2006 graduate of Rocklin High School. Reynolds-Sharp done with basic training Army National Guard Pfc. Holly C. Reynolds-Sharp has graduated from nine weeks of basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Nona Carter of Gold Beach, Ore. and Brian Sharp of Auburn, and is a 2007 graduate of Gold Beach High School. Onescu finishes Air Force training Air Force Airman Ashley B. Onescu has graduated from six weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Paula Onescu of Grass Valley and sister of Erica Denke of Medford, Ore. Onescu is a 2006 graduate of Nevada Union High School, Grass Valley. Scarcelli arrives for duty in Denver Army Sgt. 1st Class Brett Scarcelli has arrived for duty in Denver, Colo. Scarcelli, a station commander, is assigned to the Denver Metro Army Career Center, Denver Army Recruiting Battalion. The sergeant has served in the military for 14 years. He is the son of Al Scarcelli of Chino, and Bonny Brett of Grass Valley. His wife, Cynthia, is the daughter of William and Donna Anderson of Muldrow, Okla. Scarcelli is a 1993 Nevada Union High School graduate. Arnold deployed to Afghanistan Air Force Capt. (Dr.) James J. Arnold is deployed to Afghanistan to serve as a member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team Qalat. The PRT is a joint U.S. Air Force and Army team assigned to the country’s volatile province of Zabul. Members of the PRT are part of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force, part of civil-military operations designed to extend the reach and legitimacy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The team’s mission is to promote good governance and justice to stabilize the country; enable an active and effective Afghan security force; and facilitate reconstruction, development and economic growth. The PRT also provides humanitarian assistance to villagers in efforts to foster future relations with the community leaders. Capt. Arnold worked as a physician for provincial reconstruction team, working for the Governor of Zabul Province to provide humanitarian needs to the villagers. He is the son of Jim and Deb Arnold of Grass Valley.
