Investigators probe Christian Valley house fire

Investigators remained tight-lipped Thursday on details surrounding a July 12 fire in Christian Valley that caused major damage to a house. Chelsea Fox, Cal Fire spokeswoman, said no information on the cause of the fire or where it started at the property were being released because the blaze was still under investigation. The fire was reported in the evening by several neighbors. No was at home in the one-story Ross Court house at the time of the fire. Brad Jones, a member of the family that owns the house, declined to comment Thursday. The home had been occupied since the early 1970s by Jones’ mother-in-law, Joan McFarlane, who died earlier this year. In an interview at the fire sight, Jones said the house was insured. The blaze was contained in about 30 minutes but significant smoke and fire damage had occurred by that time. – Gus Thomson
