Marilyn Johnson’s dramatic shot Tuesday night just might have prolonged the Placer High girls’ basketball season by at least one game.
Needing a win to stay in playoff contention, the Lady Hillmen edged Lincoln 43-42 on Johnson’s buzzer-beating shot in the lane. She got an assist on the play from sophomore Kerry McCullough, who scored 12 points to lead Placer (4-5 Pioneer Valley League, 12-16 overall).
Placer jumped out to a 17-2 advantage after the first quarter, but the Zebras battled back and took the lead in the fourth quarter. The Lady Hillmen got the ball back on a missed free throw and McCullough drove the lane before finding Johnson for the game-winner.
Kirstin Schauble scored 10 points while Amy Clark and Arianna Jensen added eight each.
Placer will host Foothill in its regular season finale Thursday.

Del Oro 56, Woodcreek 32 at Roseville — The Golden Eagles got a decent test on the road, but they jumped out to an early lead and cruised to improve to 9-0 in the Sierra Foothill League.
Del Oro (22-3) will host Nevada Union in its regular season finale on Thursday before entering the playoffs as the top seed in Division II.

Auburn Christian 33, Global Youth Charter 22 at Sacramento — The Saints climbed over .500 in the Northern Pacific League.
Grace Byrnes scored eight points while Joy Byrnes had seven points and nine rebounds for Auburn Christian (5-4). Haley Simon added six points and 10 rebounds while Jame Boling also grabbed 10 boards.
