Jordan leads Forest Lake boys past ForesthillBy: Matthew Kimel, Journal sports editor
Luke Jordan and his Forest Lake Christian boys basketball team are hoping they can bring home a Central Valley California League title this season.
At times on Friday night in a 70-59 victory at Foresthill, the Falcons had the look of a championship club.
“The one team we lost to we didn’t play well and we weren’t on our game that night,” said Jordan, who scored a team-high 20 points against the Wildfires. “I think all of the rest teams we can take and I think we’ll beat them (Woodland Christian) next time.”
Forest Lake (13-5, 3-1) sprinted out to a 21-9 lead after one quarter of play.
Foresthill (5-10, 0-4), however, didn’t just roll over. A second-quarter surge and 14-1 run pulled Foresthill ahead 23-22.
“We were playing bad defense and our offense wasn’t flowing right,” Jordan said. “So we just kind of had to settle down and get into our offensive flow and get it going.”
Forest Lake responded well and closed the period out with a 13-2 run of its own to head into halftime up 35-25.
Foresthill pulled within 55-50 in the fourth, but Forest Lake ran away with it late.
Brandon Camacho scored 10 points and Chase Augustino added nine for Forest Lake, which travels to Victory Christian (7-9, 2-1) Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Foresthill was led by Connor McCann, who scored 20 points. Tommy Sawyer added 15 and Brooks White had 14 for the Wildfires, who host Delta at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
