Hannah Greg and Madi Holm have high expectations for their Lady Hillmen golf team this season.

The Placer High School golfers are looking to go undefeated in Pioneer Valley League play in search of winning their third straight league title. For the time being, however, the Lady Hillmen have not won a match four contests into the preseason.

On Tuesday, Placer was defeated by Whitney High School, 239-262. Whitney’s Kelsey Ulep (39), a junior who should be playing college golf in the future, led all scorers.

Placer was led by Gregg’s 42 with Kacey Egusa (49), Holm (50) and Brooke Griffin (57) following.

Placer coach Carol French said she isn’t worried about the results, as Whitney “is a league or two above us.”

She also said she has the two best golfers — Gregg and Holm — in the four-team PVL.

Though Placer lost its No. 4, 5 and 6 golfers, French still expects a strong outing this season in league play, which begins at the end of the month.

“We were winning last year by 30 or 40 strokes,” French said of Placer’s PVL contests in 2011. “Maybe this year we’ll win by 20.”

Holm said the new golfers are catching on quickly.

She added, “I think our team bond is really strong. That’s important. We have a lot of dedication to the game.”
