Lady Hillmen put away Mesa Verde

The Placer High girls basketball team built a sizeable halftime lead Wednesday night at Mesa Verde and coasted to a 55-44 victory, improving to 2-0 in the Pioneer Valley League. The Lady Hillmen (4-10 overall) erupted for 19 points in the first quarter on their way to the big win. Senior Shelby Madigan led the way with 18 points, six rebounds and five steals for Placer. Junior Kayla Reeves added 12 points while senior Bailey Bill tossed in six points and nine boards. In junior varsity action, Placer pounded Mesa Verde 54-14 as Holly Kenoyer led the way with 12 points. Hannah Peterson and Haley Godman scored eight each as the Lady Hillmen improved to 1-1 in the PVL and 7-7 overall. El Dorado 50, Colfax 39 at Colfax — The Falcons could not keep up with the visitors in the first quarter and fell to 1-2 in the Pioneer Valley League. El Dorado built a 10-point lead at the end of the first and led the rest of the way. Audrey Lewis led Colfax (10-8 overall) with 12 points and six rebounds. Katie Cassilagio scored 10 and Michelle Walker added five points and five boards. The Cougars improved to 3-0 in the PVL and 13-3 overall. Golden Sierra 60, San Juan 44 at Garden Valley — The Grizzlies strolled to 2-0 in the Golden Empire League as Jessica Blair led a balanced attack with 16 points. Jamie Danielson-McKeague added 14 and Claire Dougherty tossed in eight for Golden Sierra. The Grizzlies’ junior varsity and freshman teams both picked up wins.
