Lane-splitting eases traffic

Re: recent letters on motorcycles vs. cars: Laws for motorcycles are not the same. Motorcycle lane-splitting where speed remains within 10 mph of surrounding traffic is legal under California law and endorsed by the CHP. It eases congestion. In Japan they have space in the front of intersections that allows motorcycles a green light before remaining traffic to encourage this means of improving traffic flow. Let’s applaud motorcyclists for transporting themselves on light, fuel-efficient vehicles instead of bloated palaces on wheels that encourage thoughtless distracted driving habits.
