Let private sources foot new arena bill

To all elected officials: with our state, county, city and local officials cutting our safety, health and educational personnel, how can they think it is OK to spend any of our tax dollars for a new sports arena (Journal, June 4)? If you do not have enough dollars for needed sheriff, police, fire and health services, then you certainly do not have enough money to give to Sacramento for the arena. If there is no money to assist the fire district that has firefighters working out of a condemned building (Journal, June 6) then how do you justify assisting with dollars for an arena? Any excess money should stay in the county and be used for safety and health services. The new arena should be paid for with private money, not our tax dollar. YVONNE LEWIS, Auburn
