Congratulations to the administration, teachers, students and parents of the Loomis Union School District for earning top Academic Performance Index scores. The API focuses on how much schools are improving academically from year-to-year, based on results of statewide testing. Results of the 2010 STAR tests were released by the California Department of Education on May 5, with Loomis being the only Placer County district in which every school was at least nine (out of 10) in the statewide rank. In addition to the statewide rank, schools also receive a “similar school” ranking which allows parents to see how one school compares to a campus with similar challenges based on socioeconomics, parent education levels, ethnic diversity and the number of English-learners. Two schools in the district, Loomis Grammar and H. Clarke Powers, received the highest ranking (10 out of 10) when compared to other schools in the state with similar student demographics. Special congratulations to these staffs! Tim Ahrens, president, Loomis Teachers Association
