Shelby Madigan, Placer High’s star senior guard, rejoined her Lady Hillmen teammates on the court for an easy practice Thursday, less than 48 hours after sustaining a scary neck injury in the final minutes of Placer’s 56-45 loss at Colfax Tuesday night. Madigan was fouled hard as she drove through the lane and fell to the floor, where she remained for more than a half hour until she was transported away by ambulance for precautionary reasons. Placer head coach Scott Barry said Thursday night that Madigan is feeling better despite a black eye and some lingering neck stiffness. “They found out that she had a little whiplash concussion from snapping her head down so hard, but they didn’t think it was too serious,” Barry said. “She had a little bit of temporary loss of what happened at the time but she’s regained it all. It was just a hard foul in a hard-fought game. I’ll see how she feels tomorrow.” Barry said the team will take a day-by-day approach through the weekend to determine if Madigan will be ready to return Tuesday night when the Lady Hillmen travel to Bear River. “I still have to clear up exactly what the doctor said,” Barry said. “I need to talk to her parents and make sure that there was a clearance and the parents are aware of it and OK with it.”
