Man arrested in Old Town for possessing stolen vehicle

A man working on a sport utility vehicle in the in early-morning hours of Tuesday in Old Town Auburn was arrested after a records check revealed the vehicle was stolen.

At approximately 12:36 a.m. Auburn Police Officer Stan Hamelin was patrolling the area of Old Town when he found Peter Paul Cassidy working on a 1987 Jeep Cherokee in a parking lot on Washington Street, according to a press release issued by the Auburn Police Department early Wednesday morning.

Officer Hamelin conducted a records check of the vehicle and found it was reported stolen out of Nevada and arrested Cassidy for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle. During a search credit cards belonging to the victim/owner of the vehicle were allegedly found in Cassidy’s possession, and one forged $100 bill was allegedly found in the vehicle.

Cassidy was booked into the Placer County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen credit cards and forgery. As of Wednesday morning he was in custody with bail set at $100,000.
