San Francisco police arrested a man accused of robbing an Auburn bank this week. Auburn Police Detective Scott Alford issued a news release Wednesday morning saying that Gabriel Jordan Smith was in custody and being held in San Francisco. Smith, 26, was arrested Monday when police found him in possession of a concealed firearm. After his arrest, officers reportedly discovered that he was involved in the Sept. 20 robbery of West America Bank in Auburn. Detectives interviewed Smith and believe he may be connected to up to seven other bank robberies including a Sept. 9 robbery of West America Bank in Martinez and a Sept. 3 robbery of Bank of the West in Lafayette. Police are not yet releasing Smith’s booking photo pending further investigation by the FBI and other agencies, Alford said. ~ Staff report
