Measure B costs too much

At the present time we property owners in the Newcastle Fire District are being taxed $74.18 per year, per parcel for fire protection. If Measure B is passed that will add an additional $146.46 per year, per parcel for a total of $220.64 per year, per parcel. Gov. Jerry Brown recently signed into law a new fire protection tax on all rural property owners. It is Assembly Bill x1 29, drafted by Bob Blumenfield, Democrat, San Fernando Valley. The proposed date for this new tax is September 2012. We will be taxed an additional $150 per year, per parcel. We now pay $6.18 per month, per parcel, for fire protection. If Measure B passes, plus the Bill x1 29 new tax, we will pay a total of $30.98 per month, per parcel. We could also be taxed up to 3 percent per year, per parcel, for the Consumer Price Index. That looks like approximately an 80 percent increase per month, per parcel. Vote no on Measure B. Susie Brown, Newcastle
