The two John Edwards? two Americas is emblematic of the two worlds of this 21st century. According to Tom Friedman of the New York Times, the world is flat and we live in a global new world and are all interconnected. Yet there is the free world and the not-so-free world, the private sector conquering space and the slaughter of children in Syria. It is hard to wrap your mind around the inconsistency. Does the confusion go back to human nature, to beliefs, to free will or the dark side? The John Edwards trial might be an example of the confusing world we live in. John Edwards might become the poster boy of rise and fall and redemption. I still believe in hope and change. CAROL WALLGREN, Auburn
