The Del Oro High boys basketball team will see a near mirror image of itself tonight in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III semifinal. The Golden Eagles will face Foothill at Galt High at 9 p.m. with the winner advance to the section final Friday at Arco Arena. Del Oro (21-7) has relied on speed and pesky defense in its two playoff victories, much like the Mustangs (22-7). Neither team features a player of 6-4 in its regular rotation and both squads are short on seniors. Sophomore Aaron Hendricks as sparked the Eagles in their playoff wins over El Camino and Sonora. He’s scored a combined 55 points in the wins while junior Spencer Butterfield has been an excellent complement with 16 points in each game. Junior Nico Ruiz has also played well late in the season. Foothill’s balanced offense and tough defense has led to wins in 16 of its last 17 games. Senior Mike Exford leads the team with 11.6 points per game. Junior Nick Stanley averages just over 10 points per game for the Mustangs. Foothill has allowed just two opponents over 50 points in its last 10 games. The Eagles are looking to advance to the section title game for the first time since 1998, when they won the title.
