Welcome to the Auburn Journal’s “Noon Hour Update,” where we’ll present you with stories and updates on what’s going on in the news and what we’re working on for our Sunday and online editions.

What we’re working on: In the wake of vandalism and other crimes at some of its schools, the Auburn Union School District is beefing up its security. Reporter Amber Marra will be looking into what measures are being taken. Amber will also have a story on local educators’ reaction to the passage of Prop 30.

Protecting Auburn from the dangers of wildfires is a top priority and Reporter Jon Schultz will have a story on how the city is working to make the community safe.

Sunday is Veterans Day and Reporter Gus Thomson is highlighting a mobile home community that is honoring its resident vets this weekend.

Round 1 of the high school football playoffs gets underway tonight and Journal Sports Editor Matthew Kimel will be at Placer as the Hillmen take on Hilmar. Check back here by midnight for full coverage.
