Paint store burned hotly

Just to follow up on my story concerning the area near the State Theater that will have a garden (“What kind of store burned?” Reader Input, June 7).
As to the building that burned down there, I have talked to longtime residents and friends that said that it was originally Hancock’s Hardware, but when Mr. Hancock died, it was bought and turned into a paint store called Smith Family Paints, which would explain the intensity of the fire when all that paint caught fire. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ford for their help with this.
