Perfect Storms: Auburn clubs win big

A pair of Auburn Storm softball teams went undefeated to claim first-place trophies at the DF Softball “No Fear” Tournament last weekend in Sacramento. The Storm 16-and-under team went 5-0 in the 18-and-under division, outscoring opponents 36-10 in the tournament, including a 6-2 win over the Napa Valley Express in the final. Kailey Gaffney led the attack with 10 hits in the tournament. Taylor Graham knocked in eight runs and had three doubles. Kacy Romero had seven RBIs and three doubles, Jenna Knox h ad eight RBIs and two doubles and Alyssa Chapman had six hits, including one double. The Storm turned three double plays in the tournament and Knox gave up just seven earned runs while pitching all five games. Gaffney played catcher for four games and did not allow a stolen base. Auburn improved to 20-7 overall this summer. The Storm 10-and-under team was also 5-0 in Sacramento, toping the Lady Spartans 8-2 to win the championship game. Bethany Thornton pitched the final, striking out nine and walking none. Emma Whigam had a two-run double and Savannah Corrie added an RBI-double for the Storm. Emily Geil had a triple in the tournament opener and led Auburn with eight runs for the tourney. Kelly Corcoran scored three runs and added two RBIs in the tournament.
