The Placer High baseball team trounced Mira Loma 8-1 Friday in its season opener in Sacramento.
Sophomore Eddie Vanderdoes pitched four strong inning, striking out seven while Paul Bandanza and Zach Hersch pitched well in relief.
Placer banged out six hits. Senior Nick Mitchell had a triple and two RBIs to lead the way. Bandanza added a double and a run, Vanderdoes had a double, two RBIs and two runs and Evan Staton cracked a double.
Tyler Lipsmeyer, Caleb Mitchell, D.J. Rodriguez and Michael Reale each added hits for the Hillmen.
Track & Field
The Placer High track and field team opened the season with a third place finish at the Steve March Relays Friday at Del Oro.
The boys team took first place in four events, including the distance medley relay, where Christian Finkbeiner, Cameron Brown, Johnny Foley and Isaac Tripp teamed up. In the 4x800, Victor Brambila, Darren Centi, Tripp and Brown combined for the win.
Kaj Niegmann and Luke Roberts took the pole vault. Cameron Dean, Lance Burton and Dominic Moon teamed up to win the discus.
On the girls side, Hale Ralls, Christina Winters, Kristin Hiatt and Hannah Peterson ran to victory in the 4x800. Ellie Doughty, Holly Kenoyer, Nikki Lynette and Micaylea Mitchell won the 4x200 while Winters, Peterson, Ralls and Mitchell took the 4x400.
Marilyn Johnson, Rachel Roskelley and Becky Matthews teamed up to win the high jump title. In the long jump, Shelby Crider, Megan Tucker and Johnson were winners.
Placer also placed third in the junior varsity boys and junior varsity girls competition.
