Rain postponed Placer High’s must-win game against Mesa Verde Monday afternoon, creating the potential for a unique doubleheader today. The Hillmen (12-7-1, 6-5-1 Pioneer Valley League) will host the Mavericks at James Field at 2 p.m. If they win that game, they’ll also host Lincoln at 6 p.m. with the PVL’s third and final Division IV playoff berth on the line. The Mesa Verde game was originally suspended in the bottom of the second inning on March 26 when a batter on deck accidentally struck Mavericks catcher Chris Farley. Farley suffered a broken nose and a concussion. Monday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III team tennis quarterfinal between Placer and Bret Harte was also pushed to today. The Hillmen will begin their quest for the program’s third section title in four years at noon at Placer High.
