Placer, Colfax post shutouts in PVL openers

The Placer High boys soccer team continued its hot start to the season under the lights at Center Tuesday night in Sacramento.
The Hillmen drubbed the Cougars 3-0 to open the Pioneer Valley League campaign. They improved to 11-0-3 on the year overall.
Senior Alec Knox got the scoring started in the 40th minute with help from a pass by Ben De La Barra. Junior Gama Gomez struck in the second half on an assist from junior Brennan Entz. De La Barra closed out the match with an assist from Ulises Bautista.
Senior goalkeeper Ulises Arellano was outstanding, recording five big saves for the Hillmen. Defenders Eddie Santamaria and Nikolai Figueroa also played well.
Placer will face defending PVL champion Foothill on the road Thursday.

Colfax 2, Foothill 0 at Colfax — The Falcons jumped out of the gate in PVL play, blanking the defending league champions.
Goalkeeper Chris Lovejoy was a key in the shutout along with defenders Gary Root, Eric Graves, Adam Allen and Taylor Dorsey.
Junior Cameron Ford provided the only offense Colfax needed with an unassisted goal in the first half. Mike Moore added an insurance goal in the second half as the Falcons improved to 6-5-1 overall.
