Tine Hummel has yet to find a true test on the tennis court this spring. Placer High?s German exchange student mowed down the competition at Friday?s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championships in the same fashion she has all season on her way to the singles title. Hummel defeated her opponent from Liberty Ranch 6-3, 6-3 in the championship match at Oak Park in Stockton. ?She won the whole tournament in straight sets,? Placer coach Tom Isaac said. ?There were some really good players and I think at the beginning of the season they might have beaten Tine. But she just kept getting better and better as the season went on.? Placer senior Lindsey Holden had a new partner, but the same result in the section?s mixed doubles tournament. Holden and Kyle Fontes cruised to the title, defeating an Escalon duo 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match. In boys singles, Pioneer Valley League champion Blair Meyer of Placer made it to the semifinals before falling. Fellow senior Steven Fraguglia won his first-round match before bowing out. Placer?s boys doubles team of Brendan Axelbaum and Andrew Carducci made it to the second round of the tournament. The Hillmen are back on the court Monday, hosting Calaveras in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoff match.
