Placer, Del Oro cruise in duals

The Placer High track and field team extended its perfect Pioneer Valley League season Wednesday. Placer’s girls beat visiting Mesa Verde 112-6, while the varsity boys won 96-35. Sophomore Ellie Doughty won the 100-meter dash and also topped the 200 field. Sophomore Rachel Roskelley won the 100 hurdles, senior Melissa Manning won the shot put and junior Kaitlyn Kelly earned victory in the long jump and triple jump. Freshman Makayla Ratcliff set a personal record in the 800 and ran the first leg of both winning relays. On the boys side, senior Ethan Halbert had personal bests in the 200 and 400. Junior Keith Quinn did well in both hurdle events and also won the long jump and finished second in the high jump to classmate Luke Roberts, who also went 13 feet to claim the pole vault. Senior Louie Cree was second in the 100 and long jump. Junior Collin Burnett won the 100 in 11.7, and senior Jake Styler won the shot put. The junior varsity Hillmen also downed the Mavericks 95-40. Placer will be in action Friday afternoon at the 42nd Annual Del Oro Invitational. The Golden Eagles cruised to victory in a dual with Nevada Union Wednesday in Loomis. Del Oro’s girls won 115-20 and the boys prevailed 83-49.
