Placer Elementary 8th Grade Shootout Open Tonight

Ten boys teams entered in tournament
Ten 8th grade basketball teams will toss their hats into the ring this weekend at the Placer Shootout Tournament which will be hosted by Placer Elementary School located off Horseshoe Bard Rd. in Loomis. Five games will tip off action in Friday’s games. In the 3:30 p.m. opener, host Placer matches up with Sierra Foothill League rival Penryn while the 4:30 contest matches H. Clark Powers of Loomis against DBT of Roseville. At 5:30, two projected upper tier SFL squads – Loomis and Newcastle – will collide. John Decker’s Newcastle Knights, who already own SFL wins over defending champion Penryn and Franklin, have already accepted an at-large berth to the prestigious Crescent City Tournament of Champions. In the 6:30 game, Magnolia of the Nevada County Athletic League meets Foresthill while the 7:30 p.m. night cap matches NCAL foe Gilmore of Grass Valley against Franklin. Games will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and run through the championship game which is slated for 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors and children 6 and under are free.
