Placer Olympic wrestlers take SAWA championship

The Placer Olympic Wrestling Club successfully defended its crown at the Sacramento Area Wrestling Association Championships at Casa Roble High School last weekend. The POW Cadet division team won the team title and the boys and girls were runner-ups in their respective Intermediate and Bantam/Pee Wee divisions. The Schoolboy and Novice division teams took fifth. Of the 28 POW competitors, 17 brought home individual medals from the SAWA Championships. Ethan Bone claimed a gold medal in the Pee Wee 47-pound weight class. Jesse West was the champion at 59 in the Bantam division and Joel Valdez took gold at 62 in Intermediate. Will Hardin was the champ at 68 in the Schoolboy division and Sam Marsh won the title at 105 in the Schoolboy division. Gage Parada wrestled to a silver medal at 48 in the Bantam division while Chase Sanchez took second at 52. Michael Valdez won silver at 125 in Cadet, as did Mason Lenover at 170 and Michael Robinson at 189. Taking bronze for POW were: Sebastian McCullough (44 Pee Wee), Cody Anderson (48 Bantam), Hans Grassman (79 Intermediate), Ian Gassaway (95 Schoolboy), Brendan Packheiser (145 Cadet), Tony Surverkrop (171 Cadet) and Joe Spera (189 Junior). Coach Robert Nebeker thanked the community support and the of coaches at E.V. Cain, Placer High for their work throughout the season.
