Placer pounds Truckee to open Rail City title defense

Placer High kept right on rolling at the Rail City Classic in Sparks, Nev. on Thursday.
The Hillmen dropped Truckee 59-36 as they opened defense of their tournament championship from last year.
Senior Cody Riggs had a nice game with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists. Junior Peter Kean added 17 points and four steals. Alec Knox had 10 rebounds to go with his six points and Isaiah Pineiro grabbed eight boards.
Michael Wiebelhaus had five steals for the Hillmen, who built a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and cruised to the semifinals.
Placer (7-2) will face Casa Roble today. The Rams (4-2)?defeated Incline 64-48 on Thursday.
Bear River 88, Rio Vista 32 at Carmichael — The Bruins posted a huge blowout in their opener at the Victory Christian tournament.
Juniors Nick Bachus and Justin Beskeen scored 12 points apiece to lead Bear River. Brandon Wooner added 11 as ever player on the Bruins’ roster contributed.
Bear River (3-5) will face host Victory Christian (3-2) tonight at 8:30 in the tournament semifinals.

Orland 61, Colfax 54 at Anderson — The Falcons went down in their first game at the Anderson Invitational tournament as the Trojans used a fourth-quarter rally to break open a game that was tied after three quarters.
The Falcons fell to 5-3 on the season and will play in a consolation game today in Anderson.
