Publicly funded schools must help all

We all know that California schools are in bad shape. The first step in correcting the situation should be to stop funding charter schools. Charter schools are public-funded private schools. Charter schools can pick and choose their students. Public schools must provide for all children, including those who do not speak English. Charter schools can set their curriculum without many of the state requirements. Charter schools are private schools that are taking funding from public schools and should be paid for by parents who want their children in a private school. If there are advantages to charter schools then those advantages should be provided to all schools. Cleona Duncan, Newcastle
