Residents of North Auburn need to write a letter to the board of supervisors in protest of the sewer rate increase that will go into effect on July 1, 2013. The letter needs to reach the supervisors before May 7.
The increase is based on estimates to decommission the existing SMD 1 treatment plant on Joeger, constructing a pumping station and approximately 13 miles of pipeline to convey wastewater and expand the City of Lincoln’s treatment facility.
This increase is for the construction project. The final rate structure of our sewer costs will be determined upon completion of the construction project. That could mean an additional increase in our sewer rates in 2016 when the project is complete. We need to find a way to keep the money in Auburn and not upgrade the City of Lincoln’s facility.
Those who are on fixed incomes cannot afford this increase.
