Del Oro High transfer student Remi Barry, a French national, made his first local appearance in a competitive basketball game last weekend at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin. Barry was denied winter athletic eligibility for what the California Interscholastic Federation deemed to be an athletically motivated transfer from Florida’s American Heritage, a private school. Despite a lengthy legal battle, Barry never made it onto the court for the Golden Eagles, who eventually fell to Center in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs. The 6-foot-7 senior kicked off his spring AAU season with the YBA Dawgs, a team comprised of stars primarily from high schools in the Sierra Foothill League. Playing in his first games since last February, Barry helped the Dawgs win the tournament.
