Rising taxes thwart business

Tax the job creators and tax the entrepreneurs some more and see what is happening in the state of Illinois and may well be happening in California. The ingenious policy-makers in government have done it again. They do not realize that the class warfare of tax the job-creators may have run its course. Tax them one more time and lose 23,000 jobs. Caterpillar Inc., the builders of earthmoving equipment, may be moving out of Illinois. Caterpillar said officials in at least four other states have approached the company about relocating since Illinois raised its income tax in January. Caterpillar officials said “We want to stay here. But as the leader of this business, we have to do what’s right for Caterpillar when making decisions about where to invest,” “The direction that this state is headed in is not favorable to business.” Do you think California was one of those states to approach Caterpillar? Not hardly. There is no way California wants that dirty earth-moving company here … we do not need those kinds of jobs in California! John T. Nightingale, Auburn
