Sanchez sizzles for Hillmen in road shutout

A.J. Sanchez made sure the Placer High baseball team could start with a clean slate heading into today’s showdown with Lincoln. Sanchez tossed six shutout innings and the Hillmen blanked Foothill 3-0 to even their Pioneer Valley League record at 2-2. Placer had lost its first two PVL games of the season. Sanchez struck out 10 and did not walk any. Kevin Harcus pitched one scoreless inning to get the save. Ryan Mason was 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Placer bats. Zach Hersch was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Michael Reale was 1-for-3 with a run and Austin LaBleu scored a run for the Hillmen. Lincoln, which will visit Placer today for a makeup of Tuesday’s game, leads the PVL with a 3-0 record. In junior varsity action, Luke Knoble tossed a no-hitter over five innings and gave up just one walk as Placer crushed Foothill 10-0. Knoble struck out 11 and threw 45 strikes to just 13 balls. Jordan Wood was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Will Allen and Logan Markstein added a double and two RBIs each. Josh Hattrup tossed in a double while Blake Lipsmeyer, Chandler Skinner-Horne and Nick Lawicka had one RBI apiece.
