Fourth-grade students from Bowman Elementary School visited the Capitol Tuesday on California Admission Day, commemorating the date California entered the United States of America, Sept. 9, 1850. The students unfurled a giant California state flag and held up flags for America 500, which celebrates the 500th anniversary of the naming of the Americas. Auburn Mayor Keith Nesbitt proclaimed September “Who Named America Youth Education Month” during Monday’s city council meeting.
