I seem to have become the unwitting poster child for off-leash hiking, in your newspaper (“Leash your dog — no excuses,” Our View, Feb. 1). I love hiking in nature with my dog off-leash, but I certainly understand those that have safety concerns. We have hundreds of beautiful trails in Placer County. Please designate a few of these nature trails as leash-optional. This way, those that are uncomfortable with dogs off-leash can feel safe while hiking, and those that wish to enjoy nature with their dogs unfettered also have somewhere to go. Julie Beland, Auburn
