It’s looking a lot like Christmas in Old Town and Downtown Auburn with window decorations, ornament-festooned trees and tables filled with colorful holiday items. At Gimme Cake Too in Downtown, owner Cathy Bianchi has her gingerbread collection on display, along with a brightly decorated Christmas tree and Santa ascending and descending a shiny red ladder. “To me the holiday is for the kids,” she said. “That’s how I try to think of the (decorations). I want people to come in and feel like a kid again and, of course, want to eat some sweets, too.” Wildflower in Downtown has several Christmas trees on display with lots of ornaments and gift ideas. “It’s always different,” owner Adele Wise said. “We try to make it a little different every year.” It’s a sight customer Jeannemarie Solak appreciates. “It’s always lovely,” she said. “It’s what I call eye candy.” Old Town’s M and Company decorates to reflect each holiday. Right now, the store is filled with Christmas ambiance. It’s a constantly changing palette, owner Bob Ijams said. “We have different things every week,” he said. “The product moves and we get new stuff in.” The decorated mini-trees are a customer favorite. “We buy the trees and then put on the decorations,” he said. Down the street, Clover and Carriage is decorated from floor to ceiling with a mix of new and old for the holidays. Owner Heather Olson has incorporated two vintage sleighs. One was manufactured in New York in the 1880s. “It has been well used,” Olson said. The other is a Portland Cutter made in Portland, Maine. “It has all the original cushions and original hardware,” she said. There’s even a railing to scrape the ice off snowy boots. ~ Gloria Young
