The Sierra Club Placer Group is planning a two-hour trash cleanup of Auburn on Martin Luther King Jr. Day as part of the 2010 National Day of Service. Volunteers are asked to meet by 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, at the Auburn City Hall parking lot, 1225 Lincoln Way. Trash bags and some trash sticks will be provided but participants are asked to bring their own gloves. Last year, more than 100 families, friends and neighbors joined into small work teams to fan out across Auburn Folsom Road and Highway 49 to pick up trash for the National Day of Service. Many families participated with their children because it is a school and federal holiday. The work teams pick up trash in areas assigned by the Sierra Club Placer Group, and then return to the City Hall parking lot by noon. Recology Auburn Placer is providing Dumpsters for trash collection at the parking lot. “A clean and healthy environment starts at home, here in Auburn,” Sierra Club Placer Group Chair Marilyn Jasper said. “This clean-up day shows just how deeply our community cares about the Auburn environment.” The City of Auburn Public Works Department has assisted with organizing the Auburn Community Clean-Up Day. Pre-register by calling Heidi Van Zant or Joe Marman at (530) 889-9392 or by e-mailing email@example.com. Heavy rain cancels the cleanup.
